Jack's story isn't pretty. He's suicidal, depressed, and he uses meaningless sex and alcohol to survive. However, the story is about finding light in the darkness, but sometimes the road there isn't always easy to walk.

Lily of the Valley Flowering #2 Volume 2 Sarah Daltry 9781492216698 Books

I seriously need a drink and some chocolate...something...anything to pick me up off the floor. When I read Forget Me Not, my first thoughts were Jack and Alana totally made that book worth reading...because I hated Derek and with Lily, they were boring.
Now THIS book...OMG...I wanted to cry a few times and yell at them all as well, but reading the story from Jack's POV was definitely an eye opener and it was a heartbreaker.
My problem with this book was TOO much...too much booze, too much sex (and all unprotected with multiple partners OMG!!), too much sadness, too much depression...it was at times so much I had to take a break and read something else. I like to read about real life and real problems but sometimes the subject matter is SO heavy that it becomes stressful to get through it.
I'm glad I made it through the book though, because there is a light at the end of the tunnel, you just have to go through a lot of suffering and darkness to get there.
I'm all for steamy sex scenes in a book...but some of the behaviors of these college aged kids was downright dangerous...no thought for protection at all and while multiple sex parters may be the norm for those with emotional issues and addictions, it seemed a bit irresponsible to me to endanger all of these characters (not to mention the message it might send to teen readers). It wasn't so much that it stopped me from reading, it just was alarming to me to not see any mention of safe sex practices at all.
A very dark, sexually explicit book about depression and suicide and serious family dysfunction. I'm almost afraid to read Blue Rose (Alana's book) next since she was majorly messed up as well...I might need to take a break and read something light and fluffy first!

Lily of the Valley Flowering #2 Volume 2 Sarah Daltry 9781492216698 Books Reviews

This is a emotional investing amazingly written story of Jack that will have you wanting to hold him until he feels loved and wanted. A wonderful read. I will warn as I always do when there is a considerable amount of sexual content that this book contains sexual content and in the case of Jack it helps us understand where he is at. He feels this is where he is most desired. I don't think that is true he has so many other wonderful qualities that he hides behind his pain but to him that is what defines his goodness. We see later on that he changes his views and that he isn't using sex to mask his pain or numb himself anymore but as a way to connect. He comes a long way in this book and that evolution is beautiful to see. Again not a fan of Lily but Jack, Alana and Neil love them. Neil has pain as well but he hides behind his singing.

Alana hides behind sex and optimism. She loves Jack fiercely as he does her but theirs is a different love. At first it seems destructive but as you read on and they both change they are protective and loyal and begin to fix the fractures of who they are and what they are to each other. Alana is afraid Jack will leave her whether via Lily or the way he tried in high school doesn't matter because the thought crushes her. Sometimes to the point where she is self destructive. Her and Jack have been through alot and it is good to see them come out better at the end of this book. It is also good to see their friend Dave is back and helping them as well.

For Jack though, it was Lily. She brought the light into his world of darkness and made him want to be a better person. She helped him see that it is okay to be broken but not to succumb to it and to not let the past run your life because what others did or think doesn't define you or shouldn't help to either.

this is a book about Jack, his life growing up, his fears and demons, his blackness and how he begins to fight for his life and see out of the blackness that consumes him. A amazing and wonderful book. I fell in love with Jack so much in this book and I hope he continues this beautiful transformation and journey out of his past and into his future.
Jack's perspective makes for a darker, grittier read, there's more angst and there's a lot of pain. I loved seeing everything through his eyes, the book gave more depth to all characters, Lily, Jack, and Alana. It is a journey through the soul of a man who watched his father kill his drug addict mother in front of him at a very early age, and then had to deal with the cruelty of the world as they picked on him and bullied him for being the son of his parents, as well as poor.

Jack grew up by going through day after day of being told he was a loser, he'd end up like his father, and that he was worthless. He grew up with a maternal grandmother that indulged addictions in her attempt to provide some sort of happiness to her loved ones. He grew up with her pressure to forgive his father for killing his mother, as well as his hate for what his father had done, a deep love for a woman who loved drugs a lot more than her son, and a building rage against the world that did nothing but add to the pain Jack was already in.

Ostracized and bullied, Jack grew up with only two friends, Dave and Alana, and even with them, his relationships are a bit dysfunctional. With a suicide attempt, the murder of his mother by his father, and the constant struggle with a world hell bent on putting him down, Jack finds love with Lily. The problem is he does not really know how to love, how to be in a relationship, how to make it work. He is however smart enough to realize just what he has found and fight for it with everything he's got.

This book brought me to tears quite a few times and I did want to kick the asses of everyone in Jack's school, along with everyone who'd every hurt him. This is not an easy read, it will have your heart and gut in a twist and your emotions will be all over the place. Yet I wouldn't dream of tell you anything else but get your copy and start reading this series!
